I am not against collective setups such as advocated by Marxist thinkers. I supported Bernie Sanders and most of his platform. However, I do not agree with the idea that switching to socialism would solve our environmental problems.
For example, if we just demand housing for all, without addressing the impact of structures we build, we are lobbying for something that is economically unaffordable under our current system and also unaffordable environmentally, as we have to change the way we use wood--we need to protect the world's forests by using much less of it. This is one reason I advocate opening spaces for people to camp on as an affordable first step (and I mean free spaces, not some sort of confinement).
If we offer better alternatives, people will take them up. But that is much, much harder than protesting in the streets, which is where a lot of energy is being directed right now.
